September Recipient: BrainPower in a BackPack
BrainPower in a BackPack is a Volunteer Hungry Relief Project through ISD 191 Community Education and Burnsville High School benefitting all students, staff and families in District 191. Our high school students and community volunteers assemble hungry relief packages. During 2020-2021, BrainPower plans to provide more than 800 students with a bag of food each week – enough for at least four meals and two snacks. Participating students attend one of the eight elementary schools, two middle schools, Burnsville High School and preschool programs including Early Childhood Special Education and Early Childhood Family Education programs at Diamondhead. BrainPower also supports the 191 Community Pantry and Fresh Produce Distributions available for all on select Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students are selected for BrainPower in a BackPack by school administrators, staff, social workers and parent recommendations.
Valley Natural Foods’ Round-Up Program allows customers to round-up their grocery bill to benefit organizations that share our values. A calendar of rotating monthly recipients is established annually. Recipients also receive donations through our Green Stamp Program. Through this program, shoppers can choose to donate 5¢ for every reusable bag they use.

Register Round Up Changes
New Register Round-Up recipients normally are chosen each June. Given the uncertain state of the economy, we have changed to a new monthly program. Future recipients will be those that focus on urgent needs in the community. Recipients will be notified within 10 days of their selected month start date if they will be receiving Register Round-Up contributions that month. We plan to reassess at the end of 2020, to decide if we’ll return to our traditional Register Round-Up Timeline.
